Inspired by the futuristic dystopian novel The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, this picture shows one of the titular handmaids with a winged eye behind them, a symbol of the totalitarian, fundamentalist Christisan regime that rules America (then named Gilead) in the book. The obscured ‘NOT’ represents the silent (or not so silent) mistreatment and oppression of women that society deems acceptable both in the book and in real life.
